Google Supports TAR UMT’s Project G Sustainability Initiative

Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) recently launched Project G. It is the university’s sustainability initiative aimed at Gen Z, and it is even supported by Google itself.

The objective of Project G is to “empower and engage Gen Z in fostering sustainable change and promoting mental wellness through green practices,” as TAR UMT puts it. The university also showcased a 2D sustainable art piece made from recycled items and materials at the launch of Project G.

A mascot (of sorts), named Chapu, was also created for Project G. Chapu will be featured in a series of mixed reality postings on TAR UMT’s Instagram page dubbed Project G Diaries, a key component of the sustainability initiative. The character will go on a “journey” across the university campus to promote sustainability efforts.

“We are excited to embark on this project supported by Google, an organisation that embraces and taps on technologies to solve for sustainability. This project not only enriches our students’ educational experience but also empowers them to actively contribute to sustainability and wellness initiatives, making a profound and lasting impact on both our university and the broader community,” said Cindy Poh Huay Yuet, a programme leader and lecturer at TAR UMT.

Google’s APAC Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) Sustainability Partner, Richard Navarro, also chimed in on Project G. “It’s great to have been a part of this program and witness TAR UMT students drive Project G to further positive change among Gen Zs.”

“In REWS, we share the same vision to take bold actions to address the carbon impact associated with our buildings and operations,” he added. More details on TAR UMT’s Project G can be found on the university’s Instagram page.
