Apple Watch Series 9 Official – S9 Chip, New Double Tap Gesture, Brighter Display
September 13, 2023 Andrew Cheng

Apple’s September event is happening right now, and the first product to be introduced is the Apple Watch Series 9. Now powered by the new S9 chip, the smartwatch even features a brighter display with support for a “Double Tap” gesture.

To perform the Double Tap gesture – which is said to be coming next month – you just have to tap your index finger with your thumb twice. This gesture controls the primary button in any given app, so it can be used to, say, snooze your alarm.

It’s worth noting that Double Tap is enabled with the new S9 chip powering the Series 9, so it doesn’t seem like the gesture support will be coming to older Apple Watches.

Beyond that, there’s also the aforementioned brighter display of the Series 9; it now has a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, which is said to be doubled from the Series 8. There is also a new pink colourway, along with new “FineWoven” bands that are said to have a suede-like feel.

The Apple Watch Series 9 will be first available in selected markets including US, Canada, and Australia from $399 (about RM1,865) on 22 September. Malaysian pricing of the Apple Watch Series 9 should be unveiled very soon; stay tuned for that.
