September 1, 2023 Andrew Cheng

IFA 2023 is here, so expect to see the launch of several new devices, including the Sony Xperia 5 V. Now sporting a larger sensor for the main camera, the compact flagship phone continues to focus on its photography capability, though it no longer features a telephoto shooter.

Instead, the Xperia 5 V makes do with a dual camera system made up of a 52MP main sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. But while it no longer has a zoom lens, the Xperia 5 V’s 52MP main camera with a larger 1/1.35″ Exmor T sensor is an improvement over its predecessor‘s 12MP primary shooter.

Other specifications of the Xperia 5 V include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, a 6.1-inch 2520 x 1080 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and wide 21:9 aspect ratio, a 12MP selfie camera, 256GB of internal storage, an IP65/IP68 rating, and a 5,000mAh battery.

The Sony Xperia 5 V is set to arrive in Malaysia sometime in Q4 2023, so it could be launched here as early as October next month. No local pricing has been revealed yet, though it does retail from €999 in European markets, which comes up to about RM5,035.
