Sony Xperia 5 V Launching 1 September – No More Telephoto Camera?
August 28, 2023 Andrew Cheng

Sony is scheduling the launch of a new Xperia phone this Friday on 1 September. Chances are, the Japanese company will be introducing the Xperia 5 V. The (likely) flagship phone has been leaked several times now, and there’s a chance the device will omit its predecessor‘s telephoto camera.

Looking at an alleged leak of the Xperia 5 V’s promotional video, the phone in question appears to be sporting only two camera sensors. Typically, a dual camera system is made up of a primary shooter with an ultra-wide angle lens, so it’s possible the Xperia 5 V won’t feature a zoom camera.

Aside from that, a Geekbench listing of a Sony phone with the model number XQ-DE54 (likely the Xperia 5 V) also surfaced online. This phone, if it really is the Xperia 5 V, features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and runs on Android 13. This sounds about right, given that last year’s Xperia 5 IV features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip with 8GB RAM.

We’ll find out just what the Sony Xperia 5 V will bring to the table this coming Friday on 1 September, coinciding with the start of IFA 2023. Expect the Malaysian pricing of the phone to be revealed not long after the official introduction of the phone.
