Last week, PlayStation officially introduced the Pulse Elite wireless headphones and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds. We believe the latter is set to be available in Malaysia soon – we suspect it has already been registered with SIRIM – and looking back, there’s a good chance the Pulse Elite has also appeared in SIRIM’s database.
While not explicitly mentioned, we believe the Pulse Explore earbuds are in SIRIM’s database with the model number YY2977. A USB adapter dubbed YY2980 was also registered a week earlier, which is possibly used by the wireless earbuds for the PlayStation Link wireless audio technology.
Keeping this in mind, Sony actually registered a wireless gaming headset and USB dongle with the model numbers YY2979 and YY2976 respectively much, much earlier on 23 June.
What are the odds that these are the Pulse Elite wireless gaming headphones with its USB adapter? Well, in our opinion, very likely. After all, it shares the same model number format as the Pulse Explore – at least, we believe the YY2977 is the unreleased earbuds.
Nonetheless, the Pulse Elite does have a number of noteworthy features. Not only does it support low latency, lossless audio through the use of the new PlayStation Link technology, it also has AI-enhanced noise rejection to reduce background sounds. It even comes with a retractable boom mic.
Oh, it also uses custom-designed planar magnetic drivers. Possibly with some inputs from high-end audio brand Audeze, which is being acquired by PlayStation.
While we’re confident the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore have been registered with SIRIM already – allowing them to be officially sold in Malaysia – only time will tell if Sony Malaysia will indeed offer both products locally. Hopefully, we will find out in the near future.
