CelcomDigi in Talks to Divest Yoodo – Foreign Parties Included
August 18, 2023 Andrew Cheng

At its business update briefing today, CelcomDigi also revealed its plans for Yoodo. The telco confirmed that it is in fact divesting Yoodo, which was operating under Celcom before the CelcomDigi merger.

This confirmation came from CelcomDigi CEO himself, Datuk Idham Nawawi, in a Q&A session with members of the media. According to him, the telco is already in talks with various parties – including foreign ones – who are keen to take up Yoodo. Given the telco’s focus on esports, it is looking for partners who can further elevate Yoodo in this particular scene.

It’s no secret that Yoodo will have to be divested by Celcom once the CelcomDigi merger is complete. After all, this is a requirement by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which stated that Yoodo has to be divested within 18 months after the merger’s completion.

For now, it should be business for usual for Yoodo (and its users) until we hear more from CelcomDigi. It will certainly be interesting to see which company will take up Yoodo.
