Samsung’s latest range of foldable smartphones are finally official! Compared to the new Z Fold 5, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is certainly the more exciting device. Not only does it have a bigger cover screen now – dubbed Flex Window – it is also sporting a gapless design.
For the Malaysian market, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is offered in two variants. The base 8GB + 256GB model is priced at RM4,499, while the more generous 8GB + 512GB configuration costs RM4,999. Compared to last year’s Z Flip 4 with the same storage options, this is (only) a RM100 price hike. It’s quite reasonable, given the upgrades the new foldable brings.

Speaking of which, the biggest change to the Z Flip 5 is the much larger 3.4-inch 748 x 720 Super AMOLED display on the cover of the phone. Though the refresh rate is only limited to 60Hz, the bigger screen does make it far more functional. A full-size keyboard can even be used on this display to reply to messages.
And then there’s the new gapless design of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, a design change that it shares with the larger Z Fold 5. Not only does this look aesthetically better, it should be able to minimise dust that gets in between the two halves of the screen when the phone is kept in the pocket.
Other specifications of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are still largely similar to its predecessor, though it is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip now. It also features a 6.7-inch 2640 x 1080 Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a dual camera system (12MP main + 12MP ultra-wide), a 10MP selfie shooter, a 3,700mAh battery with 25W charging, and an IPX8 rating.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is now available for pre-order in Malaysia until 17 August from RM4,499 for the 8GB + 256GB model, while the 8GB + 512GB variant goes for RM4,999. You can also use our code AZGALAXY to get a RM200 discount on either variants of the foldable phone, while stocks last.
