The BYD Dolphin is now available for booking in Malaysia! This is ahead of the much anticipated electric hatchback’s local debut on 28 July next week, and what makes the Dolphin particularly enticing is its value proposition.
We learnt of the Dolphin’s start of order taking in Malaysia at the ongoing EVx Malaysia 2023 event in Setia City Convention Centre, Shah Alam. Compared to its SUV sibling, the BYD Atto 3, the Dolphin is expected to be priced lower. For added context, the Atto 3 currently starts at RM149,800.
Of course, it remains to be seen just which variant of the Dolphin the Malaysian market is set to get, though there’s a good chance it will mirror the Atto 3’s offering here. If this is the case, it will be available in both Standard Range and Extended Range configurations.
The Standard Range Dolphin features a single electric motor driving the front wheels that produces 94PS and 180Nm of torque, which allows it to go from 0-100kmph in 12.3 seconds. Packed with a 44.9kW battery, this variant has a range of up to 410km on the NEDC standard.
As for the Extended Range Dolphin, it has a more powerful motor (also driving the front wheels) that outputs 204PS and 310Nm of torque with a 0-100kmph time of only 7 seconds. It has a larger 60.48kW battery too with a maximum range of 490km (NEDC) on a single charge.
The BYD Dolphin will make its debut in Malaysia on 28 July, and it is now available for booking with a RM1,500 fee (refundable). If you want to take a look at the electric hatchback in person – though only the exterior is shown – you can do so at EVx Malaysia 2023 in Setia City Convention Centre, Shah Alam until tomorrow on 23 July.
