July 20, 2023 Andrew Cheng

Tesla has officially entered the Malaysian market today! The carmaker makes its debut here with the Tesla Model Y, its first mass-market electric SUV. Unfortunately, the Model 3 did not make an appearance at the launch event, so it remains to be seen exactly when the EV will be available here.

Nonetheless, the Model Y is now available for public viewing (and ordering) at the Centre Court of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur until 31 October. The EV starts from RM199,000 for the standard RWD model, while the Long Range AWD variant goes for RM246,000. If you want the fastest Model Y Performance, it will set you back RM288,000.

Naturally, opting for the Model Y Performance comes with a suite of upgrades. These include larger (and much sleeker) 21-inch Überturbine alloy wheels, performance brakes, lowered suspension, aluminium alloy pedals, a carbon fibre spoiler, and of course, an increased top speed from 217kmph to 250kmph.

As is the case with all Tesla models, you can purchase various add-ons for the Model Y in Malaysia. Getting the Enhanced Autopilot, for one, is a RM16,000 add-on, while the complete Full Self-Driving Capability is a RM32,000 premium. You can change the all-black interior to a black and white colour scheme too for RM5,000.

If you’re keen to get the Tesla Model Y, you can place an order right now on its Malaysian website or see it for yourself at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur until 31 October 2023. Deliveries of the electric SUV is estimated to start sometime in early 2024 next year.
