Chery made its grand return to Malaysia earlier this month, and it appears the Chinese carmaker is off to a great start. As many as 3,000 units of the new Chery Omoda 5 has been sold here in only 10 days, which certainly shows just how popular the locally-assembled B-segment SUV is on our shores.
The encouraging sales figure of the Omoda 5 can be attributed to its competitive pricing. Two variants of the SUV are available here: there’s the base C variant for RM108,800, and the range-topping H model, which is priced at RM118,800.
For that kind of money, you’re getting great value for money. Regardless of which variant you get, both models of the Omoda 5 is powered by the same 1.5L turbo engine that outputs 156hp and 230Nm of torque paired to a CVT. A number of ADAS features are also standard, which include adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, traffic jam assist, and of course, autonomous emergency braking.
“As an automotive manufacturer with extensive manufacturing experience and innovative capabilities, Chery is dedicated to delivering high-quality products that meet the needs of Malaysian consumers,” said Chery Malaysia’s executive VP, Leo Chen. “We place utmost emphasis on product quality, safety, and performance, continuously innovating and improving our technologies to stay ahead of market demands,” he added.
The Chery Omoda 5 is now available for booking in Malaysia at over 23 showrooms nationwide. Eight more outlets will be completed by the end of August, bringing the total number of showrooms locally to 31. With over 22 service centres at the ready, it’s evident that Chery is aggressively expanding its presence in the Malaysian market.
