BYD Dolphin EV Coming to Malaysia 28 July – Registration of Interest Now Open
July 14, 2023 Andrew Cheng

BYD is set to add another EV model to its product lineup in Malaysia later this month. The much anticipated BYD Dolphin will make its local debut here on 28 July, and what makes the electric hatchback particularly enticing is its value proposition.

Compared to its SUV sibling, the BYD Atto 3, the Dolphin is expected to be priced lower. For added context, the Atto 3 currently starts at RM149,800. An electric hatchback at a lower price point than this does sound quite compelling.

Of course, it remains to be seen just which variant of the Dolphin the Malaysian market is set to get, though there’s a good chance it will mirror the Atto 3’s offering here. If this is the case, it will be available in both Standard Range and Extended Range configurations.

The Standard Range Dolphin features a single electric motor driving the front wheels that produces 94PS and 180Nm of torque, which allows it to go from 0-100kmph in 12.3 seconds. Packed with a 44.9kW battery, this variant has a range of up to 410km on the NEDC standard.

As for the Extended Range Dolphin, it has a more powerful motor (also driving the front wheels) that outputs 204PS and 310Nm of torque with a 0-100kmph time of only 7 seconds. It has a larger 60.48kW battery too with a maximum range of 490km (NEDC) on a single charge.

To recap, the BYD Dolphin will make its debut in Malaysia on 28 July. Registration of interest for the electric hatchback is now open too, and you can even sign up for a test drive session at 11 BYD outlets nationwide.
