After much teasing, the Nothing Phone 2 is finally official. Sporting a more refined design – still retaining the see-through back panel, of course – with a much faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, the new phone is quite a bit better than last year’s Nothing Phone 1.

Let’s get to the design changes of the Phone 2 first. Compared to its predecessor, which has a flat back panel, the new phone has a “gently curved pillowed glass back” now for improved ergonomics. The Glyph Interface on the rear panel has been reworked too; while it looks similar, the overall lighting have been split to several parts.

By doing so, some parts of the Phone 2’s Glyph Interface now have a practical component to them. The bar on the upper right corner of the main glyph, for example, can act as a progress tracker for delivery services or even a countdown timer now. That’s quite neat.

Another big change to the Phone 2 is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, Qualcomm’s flagship SoC last year. According to Nothing, this chip brings 80% performance improvement compared to the Phone 1’s Snapdragon 778G+ processor. This makes sense, given that the 778G+ is a mid-tier offering.

Other specifications of the Phone 2 include a 6.7-inch 1080p LTPO OLED display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, a dual camera system (50MP main + 50MP ultra-wide), a 32MP selfie camera, up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, as well as a 4,700mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

Finally, pricing. In the US, the Nothing Phone 2 retails from $599 for the base 8GB + 128GB model, which comes up to about RM2,790. The phone is set to be launched in Malaysia later this week on 14 July, so we’ll find out the local availability and pricing of the phone then.
