Proton had an eventful 1H 2023. With over 77,321 units sold, this is the national carmaker’s best first half year of sale since 2012. Naturally, the Proton Saga remains the company’s best-seller with 33,325 units sold up to June 2023.

In fact, the Saga is actually the most popular A-segment sedan in June 2023 with 6,111 units delivered. Four other Proton models lead their respective segments as well, including the ever-popular X50 (2,449 units), Persona (2,254 units), X90 (1,082 units), and of course, the Exora (368 units).

“Proton’s performance in the first half of 2023 is noteworthy as we achieved our best start to a year since 2012 and are also on track for fifth consecutive year of sales growth,” said the deputy CEO of Proton, Roslan Abdullah. “For the second half of the year, Proton is confident we have the products and promotional strategies in place to continue our growth trajectory,” he added.

“We will also execute our plans to update our range, launch our entry into the Malaysian EV market with Pro-Net and further improve the quality of our products via investments announced this year to improve our production capabilities,” said Roslan.

At the moment, the Smart #1 is expected to be launched by Pro-Net sometime in Q4 2023. Now that Roslan has revealed that Proton is planning to update its range, the previous rumour of the X50 and X70 receiving a facelift this year may just be true after all.
