Video: 2023 Proton Saga Review – How Good Is Proton’s Best-Selling Model?
June 24, 2023 Andrew Cheng

Launched just last year, the Proton Saga MC2 facelift is currently the national carmaker’s best-selling model. As of May 2023, over 27,214 units of the A-segment sedan have been registered. Starting at RM34,800, it is also Proton’s most affordable model.

With these two factors in mind, I wanted to find out for myself just how good is the latest Saga. And after spending a good amount of time with the affordable sedan, I can definitely see how it has become Proton’s best-selling model.

The review unit I tested is the range-topping Premium S model, which retails at RM44,800. For that kind of money, it has some nice creature comforts, including keyless entry, push start button, semi-leather seats, red accents on the air-cond vents, a new 7-inch infotainment screen with iOS and Android mirroring, front bumper skirts, side skirts, as well as 15-inch alloy wheels.

Standard equipment across the range of the new Saga include two airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, and the familiar 1.3L four-cylinder engine that outputs 95PS and 120Nm of torque. It’s worth noting that the Saga I’m testing here comes with a Hyundai-sourced four-speed automatic, and not the (reportedly) new four-speed automatic gearbox provided by Aisin.
