Confirmed: Nothing Phone 2 Will Use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 to “Remain Accessible”
May 19, 2023 Andrew Cheng

The Nothing Phone 2 will be launched sometime in summer 2023 – between June to September – and it was previously revealed that it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series chipset. Well, we now know exactly which chip from the series Nothing is using for the Phone 2.

According to the founder of Nothing, Carl Pei, the Phone 2 will be using last year’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. Even though the Phone 2 isn’t using the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, this is quite a change over the Snapdragon 778G+ chip used in the Nothing Phone 1.

Of course, Pei also explained why the Phone 2 is set to use the older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. He said it comes down to ensuring that the phone “remains accessible while delivering a significantly improved experience compared to Phone 1.” Well, fair enough.

It was teased earlier this month that the Nothing Phone 2 is retaining the see-through design of its predecessor. It’s becoming the brand’s signature design language, so it only makes sense for the new phone to continue offering this feature as a unique appeal.

To recap, the Nothing Phone 2 is set to be launched between June to September 2023. With that in mind, it’s entirely possible Nothing’s new smartphone will arrive as early as next month, though we reckon it will make its debut sometime in July instead, just like the Nothing Phone 1 last year.
