Now this is interesting: Proton is showing off a new variant of the Proton X50 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023. Given that this is a limited edition model, only 200 units of the hugely popular SUV are available, and bookings can only be made at the event.

Based on the Flagship model, we were told that the R3 edition of the X50 will (likely) be a cosmetic upgrade over the regular version of the SUV. It comes in R3’s signature black and yellow colour scheme with various yellow highlights throughout the exterior.

Some unique design elements of the X50 R3 include a matte black paint job, an R3 aerokit, a bonnet stripe, and even sleek 18-inch alloy wheels. All in all, it looks properly sporty, though do note that the model pictured here is only a “concept,” as the name plate suggests. The final consumer version of the SUV may look different.

Speaking of which, while bookings of the R3 edition X50 will be opened at the Malaysia Autoshow, deliveries are only expected to start sometime in October 2023. While that’s quite a bit of wait, you are getting a limited edition model.

Pricing details of the Proton X50 R3 20th Anniversary Edition have not been revealed yet, though a Proton representative said it will be priced slightly higher than the regular Flagship model, which is currently going for RM113,300. Nonetheless, if you’re keen to get the X50 R3, head on to the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 – it will be open to the public from 4 to 7 May.

As mentioned, only 200 units of the limited edition SUV are available, so you may want to place a booking as soon as you can at the event.
