Proton continues to record high number of sales in March 2023. With 14,573 units sold – domestic and export sales included – the national carmaker sold a total of 40,287 units in Q1 2023; a whopping 50.9% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Three of Proton’s models continue to lead their respective segments. The X50, for one, lead not only the B-segment SUV market, but also the SUV market as a whole with 9,668 units sold in the first quarter of 2023. As for the Persona, as many as 6,773 units were moved.
Last but not least is the Exora with 426 units sold in March 2023, leading the C-segment MPV market.

Although Proton’s sales performance in Q1 2023 is impressive, the carmaker mentioned that sales in this period are inflated. After all, the deadline to deliver cars with sales tax-free prices was 31 March 2023 last month as part of the PENJANA incentive, so every car brand were rushing to meet this deadline.
“A better reflection of market sentiment would emerge by the end of Q2, but we remain confident of maintaining our sales momentum,” said the deputy CEO of Proton, Roslan Abdullah. “We will be launching the Proton X90 soon and will also have more additions to the range later in the year,” he added.

It’s worth noting that public previews of the Proton X90 will be held at six cities in Malaysia from tomorrow onwards (8 April), though no details have been released yet at the time of writing. Nonetheless, the premium D-segment SUV should bolster the carmaker’s sales this year, alongside the possible debut of the “Proton S50,” which is believed to be a replacement of the Proton Preve.
