Honda Malaysia Targets 80,000 Sales for 2023
March 20, 2023 Andrew Cheng

Aside from (somewhat) revealing its model lineup for the year, which includes the WR-V small SUV, Honda Malaysia also outlined its sales target for 2023. The Japanese carmaker aims to move 80,000 units throughout the year with a 12.3% market share.

This is essentially the same sales target Honda Malaysia achieved last year, where the carmaker sold exactly 80,290 units; this makes up 11.1% of the total industry volume (TIV) in 2022. It is also an impressive 51% improvement over its total sales in 2021.

Though Honda Malaysia aims to sell about the same amount of cars this year, it will be facing a different set of challenges. After all, CKD and CBU passenger cars were exempted from sales tax in 2022, which bolstered the sales performance of Honda Malaysia and other carmakers. No such incentive will be given for 2023.

Granted, with four new models coming from Honda Malaysia later this year, it’s entirely possible the carmaker can meet its sales target for 2023. It may very well retain its top spot in the non-national passenger car segment for the tenth consecutive year too.
