Sony’s current flagship wireless earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM4 – which is heavily discounted to RM599 now – was launched back in 2021, so it’s high time for a successor to be released. Based on a recent leak, it looks like the Japanese company is gearing up to launch the Sony WF-1000XM5, and it’s sporting a more compact design and (possibly) a dual-driver setup.

These leaked images were first spotted by The Walkman Blog through the FCC, which claims that the wireless earbuds with model number YY2963 are actually the WF-1000XM5. If this is indeed the successor to the WF-1000XM4, it seems to feature a more compact design.

On top of that, the alleged WF-1000XM5 may be sporting a dual-driver configuration too, based on the fact that there are two contacts in the internals of the earbuds. It will be interesting to see if Sony will take the same approach as, say, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 or the QKZ x HBB Khan, where one driver acts as a subwoofer, while the other handles mids and highs.

At the time of writing, it remains to be seen when (or if) Sony will officially introduce the WF-1000XM5. But now that the wireless earbuds have been certified already, we reckon the company will be unveiling it soon.
