Now this is interesting: Tesla is officially coming to Malaysia! Once the carmaker is here, Malaysians won’t have to purchase Tesla models from grey importers anymore, not to mention the availability of official aftersales services.
This bit of news comes from MITI minister Tengku Zafrul. According to him, Tesla is coming to Malaysia through MITI’s BEV (battery electric vehicle) Global Leaders initiative to boost BEV demand in the local market. In fact, the brand is the first applicant for the program.
He added that Tesla will be opening a head office in Malaysia, along with Tesla experience and service centres. Of course, the company will develop a Supercharger network locally as well, which should bolster the availability of EV chargers throughout the country.
Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on exactly when Tesla will be coming to Malaysia. Nonetheless, it’s still great to see that the company now has approval to import its EVs to our market.
