Aside from the revised 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, Apple also updated the Mac mini with new chip options. Not only is it available with Apple’s M2 silicone now, the compact desktop can be configured with a Pro-tier chip in the form of the M2 Pro chip for the first time as well.
Here in Malaysia, the new Mac mini retails from RM2,499 for the base model with an M2 chip paired with 8GB unified memory and a 256GB SSD. If you want the more powerful M2 Pro configuration instead, it will set you back RM5,599, which gets you 16GB unified memory and 512GB of SSD storage.
Performance gain is expected with every new revision, and in the case of the Mac mini, it can now deliver up to 50% faster performance than the previous model in image editing via Adobe Photoshop. As for the M2 Pro model – compared to the M1 Mac mini – it offers up to 4.2x faster ProRes transcode in Final Cut Pro, and up to 2.8x improved performance in Resident Evil Village.
While the Malaysian pricing of the new Mac mini has been revealed, there’s no word yet on exactly when we can purchase the compact desktop on our shores. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on the local availability of the updated Mac mini.
