January 17, 2023 Andrew Cheng

Apple’s premium MacBook Pro lineup has just been updated with the Cupertino company’s brand new M2 Pro and M2 Max silicones. Naturally, the new chips promise faster performance, and in the case of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the “longest battery life ever in a Mac.”

First, prices. For the Malaysian market, the 14-inch MacBook Pro is the more affordable model of the two with a RM8,799 starting price. As for the larger, more powerful 16-inch MacBook Pro, it retails from RM10,799. Unfortunately, the availability of the two laptops has not been revealed yet.

Thanks to the power efficiency of the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, the 16-inch MacBook Pro can last up to a whopping 22 hours on a single charge. In the performance side of things, the M2 Pro (with a 10- or 12-core CPU) offers up to 20% faster performance over the M1 Pro. As for the M2 Max, it promises 30% improvement in graphics performance compared to the M1 Max.

Beyond the new chips, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models feature some hardware revisions as well, including WiFi 6E for twice as fast connectivity compared to the previous generation. Aside from that, both laptops also get “advanced HDMI” now, which allows support for 8K displays for the first time.

To recap, the 14-inch MacBook Pro retails from RM8,799 in Malaysia, while the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at RM10,799. No word yet on the local availability of the two MacBooks, but we’ll be sure to keep a close eye on them.
