Proton’s sales continues to grow for the fourth consecutive year in 2022. The national carmaker sold as many as 141,432 cars last year, its best performance since 2013. It is also a notable 23.3% improvement compared to the company’s total sales in 2021.
Of course, the Proton Saga remains the carmaker’s best-selling model last year. As many as 55,878 units of the A-segment sedan were sold throughout 2022, which is an increase of 31.1% compared to the prior year. Evidently, the Saga MC2 facelift is well-received locally.
As for Proton’s second best-selling model in 2022, it is none other than the X50 with 40,681 units sold; that’s an impressive 41.4% improvement than 2021. In third place is the X70 with 18,533 units delivered to customers last year.
“2022 was a year of achievements and missed opportunities for Proton. The effect of the floods at the end of 2021 spilled over to the first quarter of the year and ensured we began 2022 on the back foot as we collaborated with our vendors to restore parts supply,” said the deputy CEO of Proton, Roslan Abdullah.
“Thankfully, the volume was made up over the next three quarters, but we are confident we could have achieved more and posted even better numbers if not for the disrupted start to the year. Still, Proton now has recorded sales growth for a fourth consecutive year, and we are proud of being the only automotive company in Malaysia to achieve that from 2019 to 2022,” he added.
