Lionel Messi is probably the most talked-about athlete on the internet now after leading Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup a couple of days ago. So perhaps it’s no surprise that Messi’s post on Instagram has garnered over 57 million likes and counting.
With that many likes, Messi’s posting is now the most-liked Instagram post. It surpassed the photo of a humble egg that has garnered over 56 million likes at the time of writing, which was posted back in 2019.
Of course, Messi’s World Cup victory photo has also gotten more likes than Cristiano Ronaldo’s post of Messi and himself playing chess for an advertising campaign with Louis Vuitton. That post – with 42 million likes now – was shared right before the 2022 World Cup kicked off on 20 November.
