Proton just released its latest sales report, and the national carmaker is on track to achieve its best annual annual sales since 2013. With over 11,316 cars registered in November last month, Proton’s total sales for 2022 now stands at 126,682 units.

As usual, the popular Proton X50 remains the best-selling B-segment SUV in Malaysia with 3,724 units registered last month alone. Between January to November 2022, a total of 36,917 units of the SUV were delivered to customers.

But Proton’s best-selling model last month remains the Saga with 4,100 units sold, placing it as the second most popular A-segment sedan in Malaysia in November 2022. This is followed by the Persona (1,551), X70 (1,210), Iriz (402), and of course, the Exora (329), which remains the local C-segment MPV leader.

Aside from that, Proton also revealed that it has manufactured 10,000 units of the 1.5L TGDi engine at its new assembly line at Tanjung Malim, Perak. The carmaker achieved this feat in only seven months, and it plans to produce as many as 60,000 engines in 2023 next year.

Curiously, Proton added that the 1.5L TGDi engine will be “used across several Proton models.” Currently, the engine is only found under the hood of the X50 and X70 – perhaps the X90 will feature the mill as well.

“Proton will end 2022 with a fourth consecutive year of sales growth,” said the deputy CEO of Proton, Roslan Abdullah. “With new model introductions in the pipeline for 2023, we hope to be able to increase our contribution to the Malaysia economy by making more local investments, selling more vehicles, and further growing our export markets,” he added.
