Time to update your iPad and Mac computers: iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura are now available for download. Naturally, the two updates bring a slew of new features and improvements.

Let’s start with iPadOS 16. Stage Manager is one of its biggest new features, which enhances the iPad’s multitasking experience by automatically organising apps and windows. In an update later this year, Stage Manager will even offer full external display support (up to 6K resolution) for M1 and M2 iPad models.

For creative professionals, iPadOS 16 also has Reference Mode, though this feature is limited to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display. Basically, in workflows that need accurate colours and consistent image quality (colour grading, compositing, etc), Reference Mode will match the colour requirements.

As for macOS Ventura, it also gets Stage Manager. When you enable the feature through Command Center, the current window will be displayed prominently in the centre of the screen. As for other windows, they will be moved to the left, so that users can seamlessly switch between open windows.

Oh, there’s also the impressive Continuity Camera on Ventura. You can use an iPhone as your Mac webcam, and the Desk View feature – which uses the ultra-wide camera on the iPhone – allows you to show off your desk and your face at the same time in a call; very intriguing.

iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura are now available for download on supported iPad models and Mac computers respectively. On a side note, Resident Evil Village will also arrive in the Mac App Store this Friday on 28 October. It’s the first project for RE Engine to support the Mac on macOS Ventura, and it runs natively on all Apple silicon-powered Mac computers.
