Pixel 7 & Pixel 7 Pro Official: Google Tensor G2, Brighter OLED Display, Same Prices
October 7, 2022 Andrew Cheng

Google finally unveiled its latest smartphones, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The biggest change with these two phones is the new Google Tensor G2 processor, which (naturally) offers faster performance and a slew of new software features. On top of that, both phones see no price change either.

That’s right, the Pixel 7 retains its $599 (about RM2,775) starting price, while the higher-end Pixel 7 Pro still retails from $899 (approximately RM4,165). However, given the weakening Ringgit – especially against the US dollar – expect to pay more for these two phones once importers bring them into Malaysia.

Anyway, for the (technically) same amount of money, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are now powered by the new Tensor G2 processor. Though Google did not explicitly reveal key details of the chip, XDA Developers’ report shows that the Tensor G2 does feature faster CPU and GPU, which should translate to better performance.

Beyond raw performance improvement, the Tensor G2 also enables a couple of new features on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, including Photo Unblur. Using machine learning, the two phones can sharpen blurry images through Google Photos. Of course, this feature is exclusive to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

Being the more premium offering, the Pixel 7 Pro does come with higher-end hardware. These include a 6.7-inch 1440p LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, 12GB of RAM, three storage options (128GB, 256GB, 512GB), a triple camera system (50MP primary + 12MP ultra-wide + 48MP telephoto), a 10.8MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery.

As for the more affordable Pixel 7, it has a more modest 6.3-inch 1080p OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, a dual camera system (50MP primary + 12MP ultra-wide), a 10.8MP selfie camera, and a 4,355mAh battery.

The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are now available for pre-order in selected markets, including the US, Canada, Australia, and Singapore. As per usual, it’s unlikely these new Pixel phones will be available in Malaysia officially, though you can be sure parallel importers will offer the devices here one way or another.
