Aside from its latest lineup of foldable smartphones, the Korean company also unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The latter is a brand new model in Samsung’s lineup, and it has features (such as GPX) that outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate.
For Malaysia, the Galaxy Watch 5 starts at RM1,099 for the 40mm model; the larger 44mm version costs RM1,199. As for the higher-end Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, it’s available in a sole 45mm variant for RM1,899. While there are also LTE versions of both smartwatches, they don’t seem to be offered here.
Aside from some distinct features and difference in size, both the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are quite similar. They are packed with an Exynos W920 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a sapphire crystal display – the Pro model has a more durable crystal – and the ability to measure body temperature; it’s used to improve the sleeping tracking feature.
As for the differences, let’s start with the two Watch 5 sizes. The 40mm model has a 1.2-inch 396 x 396 circular Super AMOLED display with a 284mAh battery, while the 44mm version features a 1.4-inch 450 x 450 Super AMOLED panel with a 410mAh battery. Both of them also have an Armor Aluminium case.
Being the range-topping model, the Watch 5 Pro has an even more generous 590mAh battery and a titanium case, though its Super AMOLED display is similar to the 44mm Watch 5. Of course, it also comes with GPX, which allows the smartwatch to track hiking and cycling routes.
