Two new gaming smartphones are now available in Malaysia. Sporting 144Hz AMOLED displays and physical shoulder buttons, the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro are pretty interesting gaming phones. More importantly, the former is also affordable, starting at only RM2,299.
Naturally, the RM2,299 price tag is for the base model of the Black Shark 5, which features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, a triple camera system (64MP primary + 13MP ultra-wide angle + 2MP macro), 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. If you want more RAM and storage, you can opt for the RM2,699 configuration with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
If you want a more powerful gaming phone, there’s the Black Shark 5 Pro. Not only is it powered by a faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, it also has a more sophisticated triple camera setup (108MP primary + 13MP ultra-wide angle + 5MP telemacro). Of course, it’s also more costly at RM3,699 and RM3,999 for the 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 256GB models respectively.
Beyond the different chipset and camera configuration, both the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro feature similar hardware. They look almost identical, both feature a 6.67-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, they’re packed with a 4,650mAh battery that supports fast 120W charging, and of course, they both have physical shoulder buttons that pop-up when needed.
The Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro are now available for purchase in Malaysia. To recap, the former starts at RM2,299, while the higher-end Pro model retails from RM3,699.
