Pixel 6A Unveiled With Google’s Flagship Tensor Chip, But Simpler Camera System for $449
May 12, 2022 Andrew Cheng

The Pixel 6A is here, and it shares the same flagship Google Tensor chip as the higher-end Pixel 6 series. On top of that, it is also quite a bit more affordable, though it also has a more simplified camera system.

Let’s start with the Pixel 6A’s Tensor chip. Said to be competitive with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, it is also packed with a Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) for AI tasks, enabling faster speech recognition, among other things.

Design wise, the Pixel 6A looks very similar to the higher-end Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. What is different is the size of the phone: sporting a 6.1-inch 1080p OLED display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate, it’s quite a bit more compact, even if it’s a little underwhelming it only has a 60Hz panel.

Other specifications of the Pixel 6A include a dual camera system (12.2MP primary + 12MP ultra-wide angle), an 8MP selfie camera, an under-screen fingerprint sensor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 4,410mAh battery.

The Pixel 6A will be available on 28 July; a whole two months away. Pricing wise, it retains the 5A’s $449 (RM1,970) price tag. As usual, it’s unlikely the Pixel 6A will be officially offered in Malaysia, though we reckon parallel importers will bring in the phone to the local market.
