Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) just revealed its sales figure for financial year 2021 (April 2021 – March 2022). With over 19,217 units sold, the company claims the top three non-national car brand in Malaysia – right behind Honda and Toyota.
Of the 19,217 units sold, 47.2% of the figure is made up by the Mitsubishi Xpander. Between April 2021 to March 2022, over 9,065 units of the seven-seater was sold in Malaysia; enough to put the Xpander at the top of the non-national MPV segment locally.
But the Xpander isn’t the company’s best-selling model – that honour goes to the Mitsubishi Triton with 9,420 units sold in Mitsubishi’s FY2021 sales report. MMM elaborated that the pickup truck has a market share of close to 21.4%.
“In general, the past two years have been tough on the automotive industry, not only with the rising cases of Omicron but floods that affected the Klang Valley and East Coast region, as well as parts or chips shortage,” said the CEO of MMM, Shinya Ikeda.
“There were many hurdles for the industry to overcome, thus for our sales performance to grow is a significant triumph for us,” he added.
Ikeda also said that the company is aware many customers are aiming to get their cars before the SST exemption ends on 30 June 2022. “We are continuing our best efforts to meet the booking numbers, and we have already increased our production capacity while maintaining a high level of product quality,” he said.
