Perodua’s sales performance for the year is off to a great start. In the first quarter of 2022, the national carmaker managed to sell an impressive 61,624 cars. Last month alone, Perodua registered as many as 26,759 units.
Compared to the same period in 2021, where Perodua sold 57,909 cars, the company’s sales see a 6.4% improvement in Q1 2022. The carmaker is also maintaining its lofty 247,000 sales target for the year. Given that Perodua is aiming to release one new model and two minor changes this year, it’s very possible the company can hit this sales target.
“Moving forward, we foresee the second quarter of 2022 to be the highlight for the automotive industry as brands will deliver as many vehicles as they can within that three-month period,” said the CEO and president of Perodua, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
“While semiconductor chip supply and COVID-19 would still influence production, we expect that production and registration will continue to improve. We do not foresee other factors such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to have a major impact on Perodua’s production moving forward,” he added.
