Keychron just launched a Kickstarter for its new keyboard, the Keychron K8 Pro. What makes this keyboard particularly interesting – aside from its $74 (about RM310) starting price – is the fact that this is a wireless TKL keyboard with support for QMK and VIA.
Custom keyboards with QMK and VIA compatibility are usually wired, which is what gives the K8 Pro wireless keyboard its unique appeal. Of course, there’s also its affordable pricing, starting at only $74 for the barebone version, which doesn’t come with switches or keycaps.
If you want the fully assembled version of the K8 Pro, it will set you back $84 (approximately RM350), though you’ll only get white backlit lighting. If you want RGB lighting, you’ll have to add on $10 (around RM40). There is also a more premium version of the keyboard with an aluminium frame for $104 (about RM435).
As mentioned, the K8 Pro is a TKL keyboard with wireless capability via Bluetooth 5.1, and it can be paired with up to three different devices. The mapping of the keyboard can also be changed through QMK and VIA, and thanks to the hotswap PCB, you can easily swap out switches without desoldering.
The Keychron K8 Pro is now available for backing on Kickstarter until 15 April next month. Shipping will begin the following month in May 2022, so you don’t have to wait too long to get the keyboard. We also received a unit of the aluminium version from Keychron, so stay tuned for our review of the K8 Pro!
