Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) just launched its entry-level electric vehicle (EV) on our shores, the Mercedes-Benz EQA. Fully imported (CBU) from Germany, the all-electric SUV is exempted from import and excise duties; in line with Malaysia’s Budget 2022 announcement.

Thanks to these incentives, the EQA is priced at RM278,201.25 on-the-road without insurance. That’s just RM7,036.41 more than the locally assembled (CKD) GLA 250 AMG Line, which is essentially the petrol version of the EQA.

Naturally, the electric SUV also comes with a four-year unlimited mileage warranty. As for the battery, it is protected by an eight-year or 160,000km warranty, whichever comes first.

Powering the EQA is an electric motor that drives the front wheels with a single-speed gearbox. It’s capable of producing 190PS and 370Nm of torque, allowing the EV to do the century sprint in 8.9 seconds. It can also travel up to 429km (according to the WLTP cycle) on a single charge.

Speaking of which, the EQA’s 66.5kWh battery can be charged up from 10% to 100% state of charge (SOC) in five hours and 45 minutes with the EV’s 11kW onboard AC charger. Of course, with a DC fast charger (100kW), it can be recharged from 10% to 80% in only 32 minutes.

It’s also worth noting that the first 1,000 EQA owners in Malaysia will get a one-year subscription to JomCharge, giving them 50% discount at all JomCharge charging stations. MBM will also install 13 DC fast chargers across its dealerships nationwide this year, which can be used by all EQA owners for free until the end of 2023.

Other specifications of the EQA include Driver Assistance Package – it offers adaptive cruise control with stop and go and active lane keeping assist – 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, sports seats, and two 10.25-inch screens for the instrument panel and infotainment system; the latter comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is now available for booking in Malaysia. Deliveries of the electric SUV will begin from April 2022 next month.
