2022 iPad Air Updated With M1 Processor & Similar Design for $599
March 9, 2022 Andrew Cheng

Aside from the iPhone SE, Apple also updated the iPad Air with a new chip: the Cupertino company’s very own M1 processor. This makes the 2022 iPad Air the fastest tablet in the Air lineup yet; on par with the more costly iPad Pro.

Interestingly, even with the newer, much more powerful M1 chip – Apple claims it is twice as fast as Windows laptops in the same price range – the iPad Air retains its $599 (about RM2,505) price tag in the US. It remains to be seen if this will be applicable to the Malaysia market as well. For context, the current iPad Air starts at RM2,599 locally.

Beyond the new M1 chip, the updated iPad Air also gets a 12MP front-facing camera now with support for Apple’s Center Stage feature, which automatically keeps you in the frame. Aside from that, the new tablet should have the same hardware as its predecessor, including a 10.9 Liquid Retina display with True Tone technology.

The 2022 iPad Air will go on sale on 18 March next week in the US; that’s the same launch date as the new iPhone SE. No word yet on the Malaysian availability of the new iPad.
