MTG Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Releases 18 February – Features Artwork by Metal Gear Solid Artist
February 10, 2022 Andrew Cheng

Magic: The Gathering’s latest set, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, will be released next week for tabletop on 18 February. Based on the original Kamigawa block that was released back in 2004, Neon Dynasty features new and returning mechanics, along with an artwork done by Yoji Shinkawa of Metal Gear Solid fame.

Shinkawa did the artwork for the full-art version of Satoru Umezawa, a human ninja legendary creature. The card can only be gotten through the Buy-a-Box Promo for Neon Dynasty. That is, you can only get this version of the card if you buy a Set, Draft, or Collector Booster box.

Alternatively, purchasing six pre-release packs will get you the card too.

Aside from that, there are some interesting mechanics in Neon Dynasty. Cards with Ninjutsu (a returning mechanic), for one, can be put into play already attacking by swapping with an unblocked creature on the battlefield. There’s also Reconfigure, a new mechanic that “imbues creatures with the ability to equip themselves to other creatures and confer new bonuses.”

Wizards of the Coast will be releasing Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty on 18 February next week. If you want to purchase this latest Magic: The Gathering set, check with your favourite local game store!
