If you have children between the age of 11 to 5, you can book an appointment for them to get their COVID-19 vaccination from 31 January onwards. However, this is open to those who are residing in the Klang Valley area first.

Only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to children between the age of 11 to 5. Based on clinical trials, the vaccine has an efficacy of up to 90.7%. Of course, this Pfizer vaccine is specially formulated for children: it contains 10mcg of the mRNA vaccine, which is 1/3 of the dose given to adults.

Just like the Pfizer vaccine for adults, two doses are required for a child to be considered fully vaccinated. The second dose will be given eight weeks after the first one – data shows that the vaccine provides the best immunity response with this dosing interval.

Naturally, children with comorbidities (respiratory disease, diabetes) will be prioritised first to get vaccinated as they are more vulnerable to COVID-19.
