After many months of teasers, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has finally launched the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid in Malaysia. The local pricing of the locally assembled (CKD) C-segment petrol-electric hybrid SUV has been unveiled too, and it’s slightly lower than the estimated price.
For the Malaysian market, only one variant of the Corolla Cross Hybrid is offered. Priced at RM136,550 with 100% sales tax exemption applied until 30 June 2022, the SUV comes with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, while the battery is covered with an eight-year, unlimited mileage warranty.
If you want even longer coverage, you can fork out RM2,950 to get two more years of warranty on the battery.
What sets the Corolla Cross Hybrid apart from the standard model is its hybrid powertrain. The electric motor – which outputs 72PS and 163Nm of torque – is paired with a 2ZR-FXE 1.8L four-cylinder petrol engine that does 98PS and 142Nm of torque. This makes for a combined system output of 122PS, with drive sent to the front wheels via an e-CVT.
Other specifications of the Corolla Cross Hybrid include a quoted fuel consumption of 23.3km/l, Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance systems, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system, a dashcam, and a 9-inch infotainment screen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Corolla Cross Hybrid is now available for booking in Malaysia at all Toyota showrooms nationwide. The hybrid SUV is offered in five different shades: Platinum White Pearl – an RM800 option – Red Mica Metallic, Nebula Blue Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Celestite Grey Metallic.
