The Proton Saga was the national carmaker’s best-selling model in 2021, and it seems like the A-segment sedan is set to be facelifted soon. Recently, a test mule of the 2022 Saga has been spotted on the road, suggesting that Proton is gearing up to launch the updated model.
These images of the new Saga facelift were taken by Funtasticko readers Putra Kamrin Azran and Cedric Ng. It’s the very same unit spotted at different locations around the Klang Valley area, and judging by the covered up grille, blacked out front lip and side skirts, the 2022 Saga should feature Proton’s new circular logo and body kit.
Of course, it remains to be seen if the updated Saga’s interior will see any changes, though it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility. After all, for the Pakistan market, it gets a centre armrest, not to mention a stabiliser bar for the strut mounts and sound deadening material under the bonnet and boot.
Beyond aesthetic changes, the facelifted Saga should soldier on with the same 1.3L four-cylinder engine that outputs 95hp and 120Nm of torque; the mill is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission that’s sourced from Hyundai. In fact, this is the same transmission used in the Kia Picanto.

Rumours suggest that the 2022 Proton Saga facelift will be introduced sometime in the first half of 2022. There’s a chance the Proton X70 will be updated too, and some even believe that the much-rumoured Proton X90 will debut before the year ends.
