UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) is the latest carmaker to reveal its sales performance in 2021. With 72,394 units sold, UMWT leads the non-national segment in Malaysia – that’s quite an impressive achievement.
Not surprisingly, the Toyota Vios is UMWT’s best-selling model; it accounts for 31% of the company’s total sales in 2021, though the exact figure was not revealed. The Toyota Hilux, on the other hand, remains the best-selling pickup truck in Malaysia last year.
In comparison to its total sales in 2020, UMWT’s sales in 2021 increased by a respectable 22%. The company also managed to sell more cars in December 2021 (9,289) compared to the same period the previous year (9,246). That’s a 0.5% improvement.
“We would like to thank Malaysians and our loyal customers for their continuous support towards our brand and choosing Toyota as their preferred road companion. We are driven by their love and passion towards our brand,” said the President of UMWT, Ravindran Kurusamy.
“Despite the most of 2021 being a rather challenging year for most sectors, including automotive, the team at Toyota showed resilience by continuously innovating to offer only the best mobility solutions to our customers who are eager to get back on the road upon the lifting of the lockdown in August,” he added.
