Many were affected by the floods throughout Malaysia, including Proton’s assembly lines for the popular Proton X50. After almost two weeks of downtime, the production of the B-segment SUV at the national carmaker’s Tanjung Malim plant in Perak has finally resumed.

It’s worth noting that the Tanjung Malim plant itself was not flooded. Rather, it was Proton’s parts suppliers that were affected by the floods. “Less than two weeks after the floods disrupted operations for many of our parts suppliers, we have been able to restart Proton X50 production at Tanjung Malim,” said the CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.

“This was only made possible by the close cooperation between Proton and its vendors and is an example of how we can work together to overcome an issue that affected thousands of people,” he added. In fact, Proton staff assisted in the clean-up operations at several supplier facilities.

“The quick restart of production also means we will have more stock to fulfill orders from our customers, so we are looking forward to having a great start to 2022,” said Roslan.
