2022 Toyota Vios Sees up to RM3,007 Price Hike – Now With SST Included

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) also released news prices for the Toyota Vios, which now includes SST, just like the Yaris. Although the sales tax exemption is only set to end on 30 June, new bookings of the B-segment sedan are only expected to be delivered in Q3 2022; hence the new prices with SST included.

Effectively immediately, the Vios now starts at RM77,600 for the base 1.5J variant, a price increase of RM2,977. The 1.5E, on the other hand, costs RM85,600 (RM3,007 price increase). As for the 1.5G and GR-S 1.5 trims, they are priced at RM90,400 and RM98,100 respectively; both see a RM2,816 price hike.

Do note that these are only estimated prices, so there’s a chance there will be changes in the future.

Regardless of which variant you go for – yes, even the Vios GR-S – the updated Vios soldiers on with the same Dual VVT-i 2NR-FE 1.5L engine that does 107PS and 140Nm of torque. It is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a seven-speed Shiftmatic mode, though the Vios GR-S gets a 10-speed CVT instead.

The 10-speed CVT isn’t the only equipment that’s unique to the Vios GR-S. It also comes with the aforementioned sports-tuned suspension for “increased handling and confidence in high speed as well as comfort,” 17-inch alloy wheels, sports seats wrapped in leather and suede, and a more aggressively-styled aerokit than the regular Vios.

These differences aside, other aspects of the Vios GR-S are identical to the G model. That means it still features the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance systems, which is actually offered in all variants of the Vios except for the base J trim. Safety Sense includes Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and these two features can be switched off if the driver doesn’t need them.

Every model of the Vios also gets seven airbags, but only the G variant gets leather wrapped steering wheel and seats; other trims of the regular Vios feature urethane steering wheels and fabric upholstery instead. Besides that, the facelifted Vios supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well, though the base J model does not.

The 2021 Toyota Vios facelift is now available for viewing and testing at all Toyota dealerships and UMWT branches. The Vios GR-S, on the other hand, can only be test driven at selected showrooms.
