2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Will Debut on 24 June – 6-Speed Manual Available

If you’ve been waiting to see how the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback would look like, you won’t have to wait much longer now. The global debut of the hatchback version of the C-segment model is set for two weeks from now on 24 June, and Honda even gave us a teaser of the car’s side profile.

Although the teaser image is quite dark, we can still see that the front end of the Civic Hatchback looks almost identical to the sedan version. The fastback silhouette is retained as well, though the rear end is (naturally) quite a bit shorter.

Based on patent renderings of the Civic Hatchback, its taillights are also quite different than the ones found on the sedan version. Not only are the taillights not as angular, there’s a thin strip of light that joins them together too. In retrospect, this is similar to the Civic Coupe’s taillights.

Beyond the different body shape and stylings, the Civic Hatchback should be similar to the sedan version in other regards. It will likely be powered by a retuned 1.5L turbocharged engines that now outputs 180hp and 240Nm of torque; 6hp and 20Nm of torque more than the previous 1.5L turbo engine.

Aside from that, a 2.0L NA (158hp/187Nm torque) engine should still be offered in the US market too for the Civic Hatchback. But unlike the sedan version, it is available with a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback will be unveiled globally later this month on 23 June at 6PM PDT; that’s 9AM on 24 June for us here in Malaysia. It remains to be seen if Honda Malaysia will bring in the hatchback version of the Civic, given that it has always sold the sedan version here instead. Nonetheless, the 11th generation Civic could arrive on our shores as early as this year.
