One year ago, it was reported that GAC Motor will be entering the Malaysian market through Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCMH). Well, this is now a reality, and the GAC GS3 is the first model from the Chinese carmaker to be available locally.
Retailing from only RM88,800, this B-segment SUV is priced quite competitively, especially for a fully imported (CBU) model. This starting price is for the Standard trim; the Premium variant, on the other hand, goes for RM96,800. Of course, these prices include the 50% sale tax exemption for CBU cars until 30 June 2022.
Regardless of which trim you go for, all variants of the GS3 are powered by a 1.5L naturally-aspirated engine that outputs 114PS and 150Nm of torque. It is paired to an Aisin-sourced six-speed automatic transmission, giving the GS3 a rated fuel consumption of 14.5km/l, which is quite decent for an SUV this size.
Standard equipment of the GS3 include 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and phone mirroring, four airbags, and fabric/leatherette seats. If you opt for the Premium trim, you get two more airbags (for a total of six), leatherette seats, keyless entry with push start button, and a 3.5-inch LCD instrument panel.
The GAC GS3 is now available for booking in Malaysia. More details on the new B-segment SUV can be found right here, and you can even request for a test drive through this form.
