You Won’t Have to Check Out With MySejahtera Anymore (On Android)
December 29, 2021 Andrew Cheng

If you’ve recently updated your MySejahtera app on Android, you may have noticed a new feature dubbed MySJ Trace. Basically, it’s an improved contact tracing feature utilising Bluetooth. The introduction of MySJ Trace also sees the removal of the check out button in the app.

In order to use MySJ Trace, you’ll have to activate the feature first in MySejahtera. You’ll just have to click on the MySJ Trace box, follow the on-screen instructions, and that’s it. The feature is activated when you see the green Bluetooth icon with the amount of “interactions” detected.

So how does MySJ Trace work? Using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), it can detect other users that have also activated MySJ Trace. If a user is COVID-19 positive, interactions of said user gathered over the past 14 days will be shared with the Ministry of Health (MOH) for contact tracing.

Those who are confirmed to be in close proximity with a COVID-19 positive user from MySJ Trace will receive a push notification from MySejahtera. Thanks to this new feature, the check out button is no longer needed; you won’t have to manually check out every time you leave a premise now.

Unfortunately, MySJ Trace is only offered on Android at the moment; the new update is not available on iOS yet. The update is said to be awaiting approval from Apple, so once it’s been approved, you can download the new MySejahtera app over at the Apple App Store.
