Aside from aiming to deliver 30,000 units this month, Perodua also revealed its sales target for 2022. Next year, the national carmaker is targeting “at least” 240,000 sales – that’s a 40,000 increase over 2020’s target. Perodua also mentioned that waiting period will be significantly reduced in 2022.

However, it’s worth noting that the 240,000 figure is only a preliminary estimate. “A more accurate forecast will be shared in late January 2022,” said the CEO and President of Perodua, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

“We believe that the worst is behind us in terms of COVID-19 related lockdowns, insyallah, and while there are other risks in the market, we foresee the year 2022 as a year of recovery,” he added.

Aside from that, Zainal also said that the waiting period for its range of models – quite a big concern for the Ativa – will be significantly reduced in 2022. “Based on current information and forecasts, we foresee that we can at least reach the 240,000 registration target next year as the market stabilises and our waiting period will be reduced significantly,” he said.

“The 240,000 registration number is important as we want to grow the Malaysian automotive ecosystem,” he further elaborated. The Perodua chief also forecasts that car demand would peak in the first six months of 2022. That’s when the sales tax exemption is set to end, which has been extended many times to June 2022 right now.
