With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it’s no surprise that more folks have ventured onto e-commerce. In fact, Shopee said that the number of sellers on its platform have more than doubled in the past year, with 80 of them hitting the RM1 million sales mark within a year.
On top of that, these 80 retailers are first-time Shopee sellers that joined the platform in 2021. “Some of these sellers hail from areas outside of state capitals and main cities such as Hutan Melintang, Perak; Kulim, Kedah; and Bera, Pahang,” Shopee said in a press release.
“As we wrap up 2021, we see another year of Malaysians adapting to the pandemic, and it is now more important than ever for businesses to go online to capture more online-first customers,” said the CEO of Shopee, Terence Pang. “This year, we saw more local traders and sellers either taking their first step online or continuing their journey with us,” he added.
To further support these local sellers, Shopee will be running a number of campaigns to focus on them, including the #ShopeeSapotLokal initiative and a number of free shipping vouchers for the ongoing Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale. You can click here to learn more about the sale.
