Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 With 30% Faster GPU Will Power 2022 Flagship Phones
December 1, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Qualcomm just unveiled its 2022 flagship chip, and it now features a new naming convention. Dubbed Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, you can expect to find this high-end chipset in the majority of Android flagship phones next year.

Naturally, the new chip promises some notable performance gains. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s updated Adreno GPU, for one, promises to offer up to 30% faster graphics performance. On top of that, it is said to be 25% more power-efficient too.

Speaking of power efficiency, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is now built on an even smaller 4nm process. Compared to the 5nm process of the Snapdragon 888, the new chip should be more power-efficient, delivering better battery life. Of course, this chip also comes with a number of upgrades in other aspects, including camera, AI performance, and security.

We can expect to see smartphones powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip by the end of 2021. Quite a number of phone makers have started teasing their own devices running on the new chip, including Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo, and Realme.
