10,000 EV Charging Stations to Be Installed in Selangor by 2025

Back at Budget 2022, the government announced very attractive tax incentives for electric vehicles (EV) to encourage EV adoption in the country. Well, at the tabling of Selangor Budget 2022, the state government just announced that as many as 10,000 EV charging stations will be installed in Selangor by 2025.

This is possible thanks to RM10 million worth of investment from the private sector. In 2022 alone, 1,000 EV charging stations are expected to be installed, while the remaining 9,000 stations will be completed in the remaining three years.

Once EV charging stations are more accessible to the general public, we imagine Malaysians will be more compelled to purchase EVs. After all, good charging infrastructure is important to drive EV adoption in Malaysia, especially for folks who don’t have access to charging outlets at home.

Hopefully, we’ll see more efforts like this to incentivise the purchase of EVs in Malaysia. We reckon more car makers will also bring in their EV offerings in the near future if the government continues this push. Hyundai, for one, is already bringing in the Kona Electric SUV, which is currently the most affordable EV in the country now.
