Intel has finally unveiled its latest line of 12th generation Alder Lake chips, starting with six unlocked desktop processors. Among them is the flagship Core i9-12900K chip, which is touted to be the “world’s best gaming processor.”

The Alder Lake chips are the first to feature Intel’s new hybrid architecture, which combines high performance “P-cores” with more efficient “E-cores.” In the case of the Core i9-12900K, it comes with 16 cores (eight P-cores and another eight E-cores) with 24 threads. It also has peak clock speeds of up to 5.2GHz.

If you’re thinking of getting these new 12th gen Intel chips, do note that you will need a new motherboard; more specifically, those with Intel’s just-announced Z690 chipset. It adds on a number of modern features such as WiFi 6E support and faster USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 data transfer.

These six new 12th generation Intel Alder Lake chips for desktop will be available for purchase from 4 November onwards. Consumers can also expect the mobile version of Alder Lake processors in early 2022 next year.
